Victory Learning Center programs offer specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental-health diagnosis. There are two separate sites conveniently located in Lackawanna, NY, servicing students ages 5-21 who are residentially placed or are referred through their local school district's Committee on Special Education.

FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible to: Lead Principal School Age Division
Job Summary:
Victory Learning Center is seeking a Physical Education Teacher to work with students aged 5 to 21, primarily diagnosed on the Autism spectrum, with mental health and/or behavioral concerns, and developmental or intellectual disabilities. The Physical Education Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a supportive environment where students of all abilities can participate in physical activities, improve motor skills, and enhance physical fitness.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provides an educational climate that encompasses success, independence, a productive atmosphere, and provides students with encouragement, safety and stimulation.
- Completes weekly lesson plans based on a developmentally appropriate curriculum which follows the New York State Educational Department Learning Standards.
- Prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of the students.
- Demonstrate adequate knowledge of: subject matter- Physical Education, ability to think critically, and individualize instruction.
- Promote fitness, coordination, balance, strength, and social interaction through adaptive activities.
- Implement Classroom Behavior Management Plan (Tier 1) and any student specific Tier 2 or Tier 3 Interventions.
- Act as a team leader of classroom staff including assistants, therapists and social workers.
- Communicate effectively with parents (through notebooks, phone calls, conferences, district meetings, communication app, etc.)
- Complete quarterly progress reports on all students that are distributed to parents and the school districts.
- Maintain student confidentiality within HIPPA/FERPA and agency guidelines.
- Any other duties assigned by supervisor
Skills:
- Requires the ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions.
- Requires effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills for interactions with various individuals both internal and external to the program. Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Significant problem solving and diagnostic skills with the ability to quickly analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action.
- Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner.
Minimum Education Required:
Physical Education & Health Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
Minimum Experience Required:
Minimum Experience: 1-2 years of experience is required
1-2 years of working with individuals with Autism, Intellectual Disability and/or mental health involvement is preferred
License/Registration/ Certifications Required:
- NYS Teaching Certification in Physical Education

Physical Requirements:
The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions.
