Construction Inspector I
Section 1 – Position Summary
This position requires advanced level construction work involving the continuous, on -site inspection of municipal- type construction as assigned. Individual works independently and may make limited independent decisions altering construction methods within the prerogatives of the contract specifications. May provide guidance to coordinate work of Construction Inspector I.
Section 2 – Major Responsibilities
1. Inspects the construction of all new facilities for NTMWD to determine that such facilities are completed in accordance with the plans and specifications and work is in the District easements
2. Advises the Senior Inspector when the work performed is not per the contract documents, when corrective action is not implemented by the Contractor and critical construction activities
3. Requires the contractor to provide various tests of material such as concrete slump test, compression test and soil density test where needed.
4. Ensures that materials and equipment installed conform to the approved submittals
5. Write a daily report of all activities, weather conditions, work quantities, etc.
6. Verifies the quantity of work accomplished on each monthly estimate.
7. Available to the Contractor during all working hours for the purpose of resolving questions that may arise concerning the details of construction.
Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Ability to read and understand Pipeline, Utility, and Construction Drawings and specifications
2. Must have knowledge and ability to read and understand Right -of-Way and Easement Drawings.
3. Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email
4. Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
5. Must be able to perform mathematical calculations, scale distances from plans, and measure distances on the ground.
6. Must be able to communicate well with contractors, consultants and municipal employees
Section 4 – Education and Experience
1. 2 years of construction, inspection or similar experience
2. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
3. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Section 5 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment
Work conditions vary from indoor to outdoor activities. Outdoor activities may involve exposure to hot, cold, dusty, dirty, and/or noisy conditions. Activities may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, carrying, dragging up to 100 pounds of equipment. Equipment used includes surveyor’ s transit, level, steel tape, camera and two-way radio. Work may vary depending on information requests.
