POSITION OVERVIEW:
As an integral part of the Business Strategy & Analytics team, the Data Engineer is responsible for supporting the overall data strategy for all of Nashville Soccer Club’s business operations. This role will focus on the full data analytics lifecycle, from data acquisition and hygiene, to reporting, to translating results for driving business decisions. A successful candidate will be excited to tackle data automations and ETL processes, collaborate with teammates to build sophisticated models, create advanced but clear visualizations, and work openly and cross-functionally across the organization. We’re looking for someone who welcomes challenges and exhibits intelligence and flexibility when strategizing on how best to solve a problem or answer a question.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Design, build, and optimize scalable ETL pipelines and data models for a data warehouse, ensuring performance, cost-efficiency, and adaptability to evolving business needs
- Apply a combination of programming languages (SQL & Python specifically) to assist with fan modeling, dynamic pricing, and web scraping
- Develop API processes for extracting and storing new data feeds
- Use predictive modeling to optimize fan experiences, generate revenue, create targeted marketing audiences, and other business objectives
- Build, maintain, and refine data visualizations (Tableau)
- Own end-to-end delivery of data engineering projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery to internal stakeholders
- Help identify and implement new technological applications or innovations that will support stated goals
- Develop and explain ad-hoc reports to address specific business questions and produce action-based insights
- Willingness to research and self-study to keep technical skills relevant in a highly complex environment
- Provide high-level analysis and recommendations across multiple departments and to the executive team as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Engineering, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field
- 2+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in a professional setting
- Strong capabilities in SQL and Python with experience building production-grade ETL pipelines preferred
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (S3) preferred
- Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision trees, artificial neural networks, etc.)
- Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests, and proper usage, etc.)
- ML/AI experience or a background in sports industry a plus
- Innovative and able to think outside the box for creative problem solving
- Strong flexibility and resourcefulness for managing routine tasks and ad-hoc requests (some evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required)
