As our VP, Engineering reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead the engineering team responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining our AirStrip Technologies platforms. This role requires a visionary leader with deep technical expertise and a passion for healthcare innovation. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and operations teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions that empower healthcare professionals and improve patient outcomes. 

 

Through planning and tracking you will guide day to day tasks as needed to meet engineering deadlines, weekly commitments, and deployment of “projects” into production.  In our “get results” culture, you must be willing to be as hands on as necessary when needed to ensure results.  You will work with Product and Business to prioritize all engineering non-functional tasks.   

 

The ideal candidate will be able to lead, resolve conflicts which come up when managing competing priorities and be able to roll up your sleeves to instill confidence and set an example in the engineering team.  

 

This position has the flexibility to be remote in the US or hybrid out of our San Antonio, TX office. 

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategic Leadership: 

  • Develop and execute the engineering strategy in alignment with the company’s vision and growth objectives.
  • Drive technological innovation, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Establish a clear technical roadmap and ensure alignment across engineering and product teams. 

Team Development: 

  • Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing engineering team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Implement best practices for hiring, training, and career development. 

Technology & Architecture: 

  • Oversee system architecture, platform design, and software development lifecycle.
  • Ensure the security, scalability, and reliability of all technology systems.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance platform capabilities. 

Collaboration & Communication: 

  • Partner with product management to prioritize features and align on product goals.
  • Communicate technical concepts and decisions effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Serve as a technical thought leader within the organization and industry. 

Operational Excellence: 

  • Establish metrics to measure engineering performance, reliability, and user satisfaction.
  • Optimize development processes for speed, efficiency, and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) and data privacy standards. 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

  • BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field, Master’s preferred.
  • 15+ years’ experience building and managing software platforms.
  • 7+ years of experience in a leadership role managing teams of 30+ engineers; experience leading managers/directors and multiple teams.
  • Healthcare experience  

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES 

  • Strong Technical Engineering background with proven successes in Platform development
  • Ability to actively communicate, inspire and motivate all levels of staff
  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively
  • Strong documentation and presentation skills 
  • Led development of Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) platform
  • Experience with Agile development/process.
  • Experience with scalable enterprise platform architecture for SaaS. 
  • Willingness to be as hands on as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, embracing innovation. 

 

The salary range for applicable remote US-based applicants to this position is below.  The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, prior experience as well as geographic location. 

  • $xxx,000 - $xxx,000 base salary, plus bonus eligibility.
