Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. We are seeking a full-time Space Content Research Manager responsible for conducting research, analyzing data, and interpreting findings. This role involves narrating the past, present, and future of human space flight through artifacts and creating content for Space Center Houston's visitors. Responsibilities and qualifications are shown below:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides guidance to the Director of Collections and the Director of Experience Design on content aligning with Space Center Houston’s educational objectives through the phases of installation and evaluation of educational science exhibitions.
  • Conducts research on human space exploration, analyzing existing research and other data; advising on the inclusion and approach to science content, images, video and artifacts; managing acquisitions and production; conducting and analyzing prototype evaluations; and budgeting as required.
  • Develops specific exhibition science messages and design goals.
  • Researches science topics for exhibition displays according to educational messages and design goals.
  • Advises on budgetary concerns regarding research, prototyping, artifact, and video and photo acquisition necessary for documenting human space exploration.
  • Conducts and analyzes research and compiles other data to communicate science education goals using catalogue data, archival, and library resources, along with external contacts and resources.
  • Prepares content for exhibits, including interpretive multi-media interactives.
  • Interviews scientists, engineers and subject experts with NASA and the space community for content.
  • Serves as center representative to outside experts, advisors and other contacts as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related fields (e.g., Museum Studies, History, Science, or English) preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge in human space exploration and understanding of research purposes to emphasize key aspects. Ability to conduct and manage creative and imaginative research across various fields (scientific, political, economic, cultural) for program development in acquisition, preservation, and public interpretation.
  • Ten years’ experience in aerospace and/or museum research or related profession.
  • Strong coordination, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Effective team player.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines with solid project planning, ensuring quality synthesis and presentation of historical content.
  • Flexible schedule as needed.
  • Capable of working independently with general supervision.

Salary Range: $110,000-$115,000. (Commensurate with education, skills, and experience.)
