Crisis Counselor of Project Impact- PT
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois is a not-for-profit social service agency with more than 70 program sites throughout the state of Illinois. Our services include counseling, mental health, substance abuse treatment, housing, work with prisoners and their families and services for older adults and a variety of services for children including preschool, foster care, and adoption.
LSSI is hiring a part-time Project Impact Crisis Counselor. Responsible for prioritizing patient well-being and assist with the coordination of a safe/appropriate plan of care conducting onsite and phone intakes for the purpose of triage, evaluation, crisis intervention, disposition, admission, and linkage to resources. Also responsible for completing comprehensive assessments with patients in crisis who may benefit from linkage to various substance use, mental health, and behavioral health services up to and including inpatient hospitalization.

Essential Functions:
- Clinically assess patients, identify level of need for immediate intervention to safeguard patient wellbeing.
- Develop familiarity with local resources to best serve a wide variety of patients across a broad spectrum of presentation and need.
- Remain in complete compliance with HIPAA and privacy standards while maintaining efficiency and clinical guidelines with written documentation.
- Operate within a multidisciplinary setting with effective communication between supervisory staff, collateral contacts and agencies, and other involved teams for the treatment and well-being of the patient.
- Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest, and fair manner.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mental or behavioral health related field required.
- Master’s degree in mental or behavioral health related field preferred.
- One (1) year experience working within the behavioral health field preferred.
- Licensure in mental/behavioral health (LSW/LCSW, LPC/LCPC, CADC) field preferred.
- Background check clearance required.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to a fast-paced, flexible environment with broad patient presentation.
- Ability to provide and coordinate a wide scope of services between IMPACT and outpatient services with emphasis on continuity of care within the LSSI system where possible.
- Demonstrated understanding HIPAA privacy and documentation standards.
- Proficiency in and completion of all required documentation.
- Familiarity and experience using Electronic Health Record preferred.
- Basic understanding of Medicaid/Medicare and other insurances required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, verbally and written.
- Ability to pass IM-CATS training and credentialing exam.
- Excellent time management, organization, presentation, and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.
Other Requirements:
- Adherence to ethical standards of practice and treatment.
- Proficiency in and completion of all required documentation in EHR system.
- Ability to provide and coordinate a wide scope of services between IMPACT and outpatient services with emphasis on continuity of care within the LSSI system where possible.
- Time management and organizational skills to adequately ensure the timely completion of tasks and assignments.
- Ability to operate proficiently within a team setting with emphasis on individual accountability for personal task completion and behavior.
- Completion and upkeep of required training standards.
