Basic Function: Is responsible for overseeing and managing the firm's retail trading and money movement operations, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and regulatory compliance. This role is responsible for teams that supports trade execution, account funding, disbursements, and related activities, working closely with Pershing as the firm’s primary clearing partner. The Director will drive process improvements, risk management, and strategic initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness and client service.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the Trading and Asset Movement teams, ensuring alignment with firm objectives.
  • Manage and develop two direct reports: Manager, Trading and Manager, Asset Movement, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear goals and performance metrics for both teams to enhance efficiency, service levels, and risk mitigation.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, including Compliance, Technology, Finance, Investment Management and Research, and Advisor Support, to optimize workflows and ensure seamless operations.

 

Trading Operations Oversight

  • Oversee and support the trade desk, which takes incoming calls from advisors to place trades across equities, options, mutual funds, fixed income, and other securities.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Pershing and other execution partners to ensure best execution practices.
  • Monitor and address trade corrections, allocations, and post-trade processing issues.
  • Ensure adherence with FINRA, SEC, and clearing firm rules related to trading operations including but not limited to CAT, CAIS and TRACE.

 

Asset Movement Operations Oversight

  • Manage the firm’s cash movement activities, including wires, ACH transfers, journals, check processing, and standing instructions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of incoming and outgoing funds while mitigating fraud and operational risk.
  • Collaborate with Pershing to resolve exceptions and enhance money movement efficiencies.
  • Implement controls to monitor funding requests, disbursement approvals, and compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) regulations.

 

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Maintain oversight of key operational risks, implementing controls to prevent trade errors, failed trades, and fraudulent transactions.
  • Work closely with Compliance and Risk teams to ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including those imposed by FINRA, SEC, and Pershing.
  • Support audits and regulatory exams by providing documentation and explanations related to trading and money movement.
  • Develop and enhance policies and procedures to improve operational integrity and risk mitigation.

 

Process Improvement & Technology Integration

  • Identify and implement process enhancements and automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
  • Partner with Technology teams to evaluate and integrate trading and money movement systems that align with Pershing’s platform capabilities.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to drive continuous innovation in trading and cash movement operations.

 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in trading, operations, or money movement functions at a broker-dealer, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of Pershing’s systems and processes, including NetX360 and Pershing’s trading and money movement workflows.
  • Deep understanding of trade execution, settlement, reconciliation, and cash movement protocols.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC, FINRA, AML, OFAC) and risk management best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop high-performing teams in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using trading platforms, order management systems, and cash processing tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field
  • FINRA Series 4, 7, 24, 53 and 63/66 required within 1 year of placement.
