Private Sports Instructors provide one-on-one or small group instruction, developing customized training plans, and fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. 
Essential Functions:
The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
  • Conducts private and small group lessons tailored to the individual needs and skill levels of each student.
  • Develop and implement personalized training programs to improve players' techniques, strategies, and overall performance.
  • Independently monitors participants to ensure proper use of equipment and exercise techniques. Assess players’ progress, adjust training plans as needed.
  • Teach the fundamental rules, strategies, and etiquette of specific sport Provide clear, constructive feedback and encouragement to help players achieve their goals.
  • Regularly communicates with clients to schedule lessons and discuss progress.
  • Maintains a safe and supportive environment during all lessons. Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate incident reports.
  • Communicate and enforce all city, department, building and/or park policies and procedures if applicable; complete any necessary reports and forms (i.e., Incident Report, Attendance Record, etc.)
  • Stay updated on the latest sport specific techniques, strategies, and trends.
  • Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and a love for the game.
  • Manage equipment and ensure all gear is in good condition. 
  • Required to set up and break down materials used for instruction.
  • Always represent the organization professionally and positively.
  • Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants to answer questions and resolve problems.  
  • Keeps supervisor informed of customer and facility needs and reports any issues and concerns.
  • Attend scheduled meetings as required.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGEIn-depth knowledge of specific sport rules, techniques, and strategies. Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation; working knowledge of fundamentals of the specific sport and training principles. Thorough knowledge of City and department rules and regulations. 
SKILL: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Public relations skills; demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job; able to perform and demonstrate techniques and movements for client understanding.
ABILITY:  Plan, organize, instruct, and supervise the assigned program; Physical ability to demonstrate techniques and participate in drills; follow written and verbal instructions; remain current on the trends of the athletics industry; communicate effectively to the participants when teaching skills; analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action to be taken; work independently and manage time effectively; work with little or no supervision, as necessary; analyze and correct facility safety hazards; write incident reports, as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.
TRAINING: Certification from an accredited agency specific to the sport being instructed is preferred. 
EXPERIENCE: Must be at least 18 years of age.  Previous athletics instructor or coach experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Special Requirements:
Must hold current CPR/AED certification.
