Koniag Data Solutions (KDS), a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Junior Assessment & Authorization (A&A) Cybersecurity Engineer to support our federal government clients' security compliance and authorization efforts. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth in cybersecurity, particularly in the federal space. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in information technology and cybersecurity principles, with a willingness to learn and develop expertise in federal security compliance frameworks. 

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • The A&A Junior Cybersecurity Engineer will support senior team members in security assessment and authorization activities. Key responsibilities include:
  •  Assist in gathering and organizing documentation for security authorization packages
  •  Support the maintenance of System Security Plans (SSP)
  •  Help track and document Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&M)
  •  Participate in security control assessments under supervision
  •  Support vulnerability scanning and assessment activities
  •  Assist in maintaining security documentation
  •  Help collect and organize evidence for security controls
  •  Support continuous monitoring activities
  •  Participate in security meetings and working groups
  •  Learn and apply RMF principles and processes
  •  Assist in preparing basic security documentation
  •  Support system inventory maintenance
  •  Help track security metrics and create reports
  •  Assist with basic security testing activities

Education and Experience:
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • 0-2 years of experience in cybersecurity or information technology
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles
  • Familiarity with NIST frameworks and standards
  • Basic knowledge of security controls and assessments
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good organizational skills
  • Basic technical writing ability
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Strong learning aptitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Team-oriented mindset
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and processes
  • Ability to obtain public trust clearance

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • Previous internship or co-op experience in cybersecurity
  • Familiarity with RMF processes
  • Knowledge of FISMA requirements
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning tools
  • Basic understanding of security documentation
  • Exposure to federal government systems
  • Additional security certifications
  • Experience with documentation management systems
  • Basic scripting or programming knowledge
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems
  • Understanding of basic security tools
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts
  • Experience with tracking tools (JIRA, etc.)
  • Interest in security compliance and governance
