Security Control Assessment Junior Cybersecurity Analyst (REMOTE)

Koniag Data Solutions (KDS), a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Junior Cybersecurity Analyst to support our Security Control Assessment (SCA) team. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals starting their cybersecurity career to gain hands-on experience in security assessments while supporting federal government clients.
Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:
The Junior Cybersecurity Analyst will assist senior team members in:
- Supporting security control assessment activities
- Gathering and organizing assessment evidence
- Documenting security control implementation
- Conducting basic security testing and evaluations
- Assisting with vulnerability scans and analysis
- Supporting the creation of assessment reports
- Maintaining assessment documentation and tracking sheets
- Participating in security control interviews
- Helping to prepare assessment deliverables
- Learning and applying NIST security controls and frameworks
- Supporting continuous monitoring activities
- Assisting with security documentation review
- Contributing to Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) development
- Participating in team meetings and technical discussions
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- 0-2 years of experience in cybersecurity or information technology
- Internship or academic project experience in cybersecurity preferred
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and concepts
- Knowledge of NIST frameworks and security controls
- Familiarity with common security tools and technologies
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills
- Basic technical writing abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures
- Good communication skills
- Eagerness to learn and develop professional skills
- Basic understanding of networking concepts
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and security protocols
Desired Skills and Competencies:
- Security+ certification or in progress
- Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF)
- Basic understanding of FISMA requirements
- Experience with vulnerability scanning tools
- Knowledge of basic scripting or programming
- Familiarity with cloud computing concepts
- Understanding of basic system administration
- Experience with documentation management systems
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks
- Basic understanding of security assessment methodologies
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices
- Experience with technical documentation
- Interest in federal government cybersecurity
- Basic understanding of privacy principles
