Security Control Assessment Junior Cybersecurity Analyst (REMOTE)

Koniag Data Solutions (KDS), a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Junior Cybersecurity Analyst to support our Security Control Assessment (SCA) team. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals starting their cybersecurity career to gain hands-on experience in security assessments while supporting federal government clients. 

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:
The Junior Cybersecurity Analyst will assist senior team members in:

• Supporting security control assessment activities
• Gathering and organizing assessment evidence
• Documenting security control implementation
• Conducting basic security testing and evaluations
• Assisting with vulnerability scans and analysis
• Supporting the creation of assessment reports
• Maintaining assessment documentation and tracking sheets
• Participating in security control interviews
• Helping to prepare assessment deliverables
• Learning and applying NIST security controls and frameworks
• Supporting continuous monitoring activities
• Assisting with security documentation review
• Contributing to Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) development
• Participating in team meetings and technical discussions

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
• 0-2 years of experience in cybersecurity or information technology
• Internship or academic project experience in cybersecurity preferred

Required Skills and Competencies:

• Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and concepts
• Knowledge of NIST frameworks and security controls
• Familiarity with common security tools and technologies
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent organizational skills
• Basic technical writing abilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures
• Good communication skills
• Eagerness to learn and develop professional skills
• Basic understanding of networking concepts
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and security protocols

Desired Skills and Competencies:

• Security+ certification or in progress
• Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF)
• Basic understanding of FISMA requirements
• Experience with vulnerability scanning tools
• Knowledge of basic scripting or programming
• Familiarity with cloud computing concepts
• Understanding of basic system administration
• Experience with documentation management systems
• Knowledge of compliance frameworks
• Basic understanding of security assessment methodologies
• Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices
• Experience with technical documentation
• Interest in federal government cybersecurity
• Basic understanding of privacy principles
