Security Control Assessment Lead Information Systems Security Engineer (REMOTE)

Koniag Data Solutions (KDS), a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Lead Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to provide technical leadership for our Security Control Assessment (SCA) programs. This senior-level position will be responsible for leading complex security engineering initiatives and providing technical guidance for security assessment activities.
Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:
The Lead ISSE will:
- Design, implement, and maintain security infrastructure.
- Deploy security tools and technologies.
- Troubleshooting security issues.
- Perform security assessments and audits.
- Provide technical leadership for security control assessment activities
- Design and implement security architecture solutions
- Lead security engineering teams in assessment implementations
- Develop and maintain security assessment methodologies
- Evaluate complex systems for security compliance
- Direct technical aspects of security authorization processes
- Lead security testing and validation efforts
- Provide expert guidance on security control implementation
- Oversee system security engineering activities
- Review and approve technical security documentation
- Lead technical discussions with stakeholders
- Develop security requirements and specifications
- Guide implementation of security solutions
- Mentor junior security engineers and analysts
- Support continuous monitoring programs
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field (Master's preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in information systems security
- 7+ years of experience in security control assessments
- 5+ years of technical leadership experience
- Extensive experience with federal security requirements
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of network and system security.
- Experience with cybersecurity tools and techniques.
- Expert knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 controls
- Deep understanding of Risk Management Framework (RMF)
- Strong experience with security engineering principles
- Expertise in security architecture design
- Advanced knowledge of security testing methodologies
- Strong understanding of network security
- Experience with cloud security architectures
- Proficiency in security tool implementation
- Expert knowledge of security documentation requirements
- Strong technical writing abilities
- Leadership and mentoring skills
- Project management experience
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Excellence in stakeholder communication
- Knowledge of federal security requirements
Desired Skills and Competencies:
- CISSP, CISM, or equivalent certifications
- Experience with FedRAMP assessments
- Knowledge of CMMC requirements
- Cloud security certifications
- Experience with automation tools
- Background in DevSecOps
- Knowledge of emerging security technologies
- Experience with security tool development
- Understanding of AI/ML security implications
- Familiarity with container security
- Experience with incident response
- Knowledge of privacy engineering
- Public speaking experience
- Experience with red team/blue team exercises
- Background in federal government contracting
