Koniag Data Solutions, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Red Team/Penetration Engineer with an active Secret clearance to support KDS and our government customer in Alexandria, VA.

KDS is seeking an experienced Red Team/Penetration Engineer to conduct advanced adversary emulation, security modeling, and strategic security planning for our federal government clients. The ideal candidate will combine offensive security expertise with strategic thinking to help identify and address security vulnerabilities through sophisticated attack simulations and security modeling. 

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • The Red Team/Penetration Engineer will lead and conduct advanced security assessments and adversary emulation exercises. Key responsibilities include:
  • Designs, plans, and executes simulated cyberattacks against an organization’s systems, mimicking the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) of a real-world attacker.
  • Conduct red team/penetration functions/tests to identify vulnerabilities and weaknesses across various platforms.
  • Develop exploit techniques.
  • Provide detailed reports on findings.
  • Create threat models and attack simulations
  • Plan and execute adversary emulation campaigns
  • Develop custom tools and exploitation techniques
  • Model potential attack paths and scenarios
  • Document findings and provide remediation guidance
  • Coordinate with blue team for purple team exercises
  • Develop security testing methodologies
  • Create and maintain attack playbooks
  • Perform vulnerability research and analysis
  • Support threat hunting initiatives
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior team members
  • Develop strategic security recommendations

Education and Experience:
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in offensive security operations
  • 5+ years of penetration testing experience
  • Advanced security certifications (OSCP, GPEN, or equivalent)
  • Experience in federal government security operations

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Expert knowledge of offensive security techniques
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong experience with penetration testing tools
  • Advanced scripting abilities (Python, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Expertise in vulnerability assessment
  •  Knowledge of common attack frameworks (MITRE ATT&CK)
  • Experience with exploit development
  • Strong understanding of network protocols
  • Knowledge of system architecture
  • Experience with security tools development
  • Expertise in social engineering techniques
  • Strong documentation abilities
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of security compliance requirements

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • Master's degree in relevant field
  • Additional advanced certifications (OSCE, OSEE)
  • Experience with classified systems
  • Expertise in wireless security testing
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems
  • Experience with cloud security testing
  • Mobile platform testing experience
  • Hardware security experience
  • Malware analysis skills
  • Experience with threat intelligence
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps practices
  • Published security research
  • Experience with red team automation
  • Public speaking experience
  • Active security clearance
