An Engineering Co-Op or Intern assignment with JTEKT Bearings North America in Blythewood, SC is designed for students to gain meaningful work experience and learn more about a career in Engineering. The practical knowledge gained is expected to complement the theoretical knowledge he/she gains in a college classroom. This FT or PT position provides engineering support for projects and day-to-day operations. This position provides support to the plant to achieve goals and objectives in safety, quality, delivery, and cost, and support for JPS (JTEKT Production System) initiatives to improve productivity.
Seeking students interested in working Part-Time Spring 2025, and Full-Time Summer and Fall 2025.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

Provide engineering support in area of scrap reduction, productivity improvements, machine builds, and quality improvements.

Perform standard analysis, calculations, and generate drawings, as required in process engineering designs.

Independently manage projects and activities to meet safety, quality, delivery, cost, and continuous improvement goals while meeting planned deadlines.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. (U.S. Citizen, a lawful permanent alien, refugee, or granted asylum)
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
· Uses hands on approach to engineering in support of manufacturing.
· Knowledge of Lean manufacturing methods preferred
· Experience working on electrical or mechanical assemblies preferred

Education and Experience:
Must be taking sophomore, junior or senior level engineering classes
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Work is performed in a normal office setting and on the manufacturing shop floor.
· There will be minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.
· In the office setting, substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity.
· Manufacturing floor setting will result in exposure to hot and cold temperatures, noise, fumes, limited dust, and oily coolants. Requires walking, climbing, bending, and occasional lifting of material up to 40 pounds.
· The performance of this position will require daily exposure to manufacturing areas, which require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses with side shields, mandatory hearing protection, and slip resistant shoes as a minimum. Additional protective equipment maybe required to comply with the standard of certain work areas.
