Coordinates daily activities in the BAK Child Care Center, a weekday and every other weekend drop-in center for children whose mothers are attending to business on site or away from the shelter (i.e. doctor appointments, interviews, court, etc). Helps plan other parent/child activities held at the facility on evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary care giver for up to six children of mixed ages (6 weeks to school age). Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for children receiving care in the Center while their mothers are away from the facility.
  • Establish a nurturing, supportive, and stimulating environment for children. Maintain a positive and flexible attitude for children, parents, staff, and volunteers.
  • Assist in the planning of other parent/child activities held at the facility on evenings, weekends and in the summer.
  • Assist in training of other BAK staff who provide occasional Center coverage for breaks, meetings, etc.
  • Review parent signup sheet in advance in an effort to plan developmentally appropriate activities for each child.
  • Communicate clear expectations to BAK parents and volunteers and ensure that health and safety guidelines are met.
  • Keep center supplies and equipment clean, organized, and well maintained. Notify supervisor of needed supplies and equipment repairs.
  • Communicate classroom observations and concerns to parent and BAK staff as appropriate.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional training, workshops, and seminars to gain additional knowledge of available resources and skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of family records and information.
  • Maintain First Aid and Infant/ Child CPR certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Must possess the 90-hour preservice training, and/or an Associate of Arts. A Bachelor’s degree in human development, Child Development, or a related social service field is strongly preferred.
  • Must have experience working with young children in a center setting and an understanding of trauma recovery.
  • Nurturing, patient, and calm manner, good communication skills, and ability to maintain flexibility and sensitivity to family issues are required.
  • Bi-lingual ability a plus.
  • Have a cleared background check on file.

 

Starting pay $19/hour
