The general salary range for this position is $63,400-$95,200. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.

Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking a Program Manager, Urban Wildlife Policy for the Wildlife department. In this position you will advance the use of humane and effective solutions for conflicts with urban wildlife by leading initiatives to pass or implement humane policies, ordinances, wildlife management plans and or community-based wildlife initiatives.   

Responsibilities:

• Manages efforts to pass humane urban wildlife policies at the community level, including consulting with mayors, city councils, city managers, agency leads, animal care and control professionals and other community leaders to develop, pass, and implement humane wildlife management plans, ordinances, and policies;
• Builds community and political support for the adoption of humane wildlife management policies and Wild Neighbors program through outreach to community leaders and animal care and control professionals. This includes representing the Wild Neighbors pledge and program at key meetings and conferences;
• Collaborates with State Directors to develop and implement campaigns to influence and advance urban wildlife policy reforms in their respective states;
• Helps foster relationships with external and internal stakeholders relating to advancing urban wildlife policy;
• Collaborates with our internal communications and legal teams to develop template ordinances, resolutions, and conflict management plans, as well as education and outreach materials, regarding humane solutions to conflicts with urban wildlife;
• Conducts media interviews and responds to internal and external stakeholders regarding humane policies for urban wildlife;
• Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in political science, Law, Public Policy, or a related field or equivalent work experience required. Advanced degree in law or public policy preferred;
• A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in public and/or corporate policy advocacy, public policy research, or legislative affairs or other related experience required;
• Experience working on animal welfare issues a plus;
• Experience lobbying is a plus;
• Strong knowledge and understanding of public policy advocacy and research;
• Working knowledge of local policymaking, structure, and legislative processes;
• Strong knowledge of urban wildlife preferred;
• Must be willing and able to travel;
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;
• Ability to multitask and be flexible with regard to workload and assignments;
• Ability to exercise sound judgment;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Attention to detail and commitment to excellence, demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
• Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member in a team environment;
• Strong interest in animal protection issues.

 
This position is in the DC Metro Area- remote eligible
