Job Summary

 

The associate at this level is expected, with supervision, to solve mechanical design problems, generating concepts and developing them through implementation in production using acquired engineering theory and newly learned practical experience.  The types of problems and areas of focus would cover items pertaining to existing products, new products, and/or as-yet-undeveloped ideas.

 

Essential Job Functions *

 

  • Designs components for products ranging from simple components to systems of low complexity to satisfy customer requirements.  May design small-scope complete products.  This work is performed on multifunctional development teams under the supervision of more senior engineers.
  • Ability to physically build fixtures of simple mechanical systems
  • Researches and analyzes data such as internal customer product proposals, drawings/specifications, applications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application considering cost, time, and other factors.
  • Predicts test performance based on sound engineering practices.  Plans and directs personnel in fabrication of test equipment and develops methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
  • Will perform hands-on preliminary testing of concepts.  Analyzes test data for viability of accuracy and development of products.
  • Participates in the hands-on assembly or prototyping of engineering concepts and/or Alpha build products.
  • Investigates and solves problems that affect warranty/reliability and product cost for new and/or existing products.
  • Communicates design intent through creation of robust engineering or product specifications and along with the documented spec, provides the necessary guidance to mechanical designers for successful design execution.
  • Develop test procedures using sound engineering practices, engineering tools, and related industry standards.

Education & Experience

 

  • BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering
  • 0-3 years of experience in a related fields.

 

Competencies – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Basic mechanical engineering experience; engineers components and assemblies with supervisory technical oversight
  • Hands on ability to work with power tools and equipment.
  • Basic working knowledge of drawing detailing and GD&T practices, able to fully detail component drawings with occasional assistance.
  • Capable of performing basic tolerance stack-up analyses to assess accumulated dimension/tolerance variation across simple components or assemblies.
  • Introductory experience handling engineering issues and problems and referring more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Possesses theoretical to begin working knowledge of engineering principles related to the position.
  • Basic team player skills: able to work well with others and support internal/external customer needs.
