POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • Coordinate the activities of employees in the shipping department.
  • Help train and motivate employees in their work standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure that all shipping supplies are on hand.
  • Assign employees to their work stations.
  • Responsible for training and maintaining a competent crew.
  • Suggest disciplinary action that may be needed.
  • Responsible for various reports.
  • Responsible for providing input for the evaluation of employees.
  • May suggest work orders that might be needed.
  • Assist in inventory control.
  • Promote harmonious working relations between employees in all departments and all levels of management.
  • Recommend methods to improve efficiency.
  • Enter shipping data into the computer.
  • Responsible for all safety issues, including accident reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Verbally communicate problems to supervisor, production, data entry and accounting.
  • Work with minimal supervision and at times independently.
  • Comply with Company rules, regulations and policies.
  • Comply with all safety, health and environmental regulations as prescribed by law and Company policies.
  • Follow and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and company policies at all times; must be familiar with G.M.P. requirements and the employee handbook.
  • Meet Company attendance standards of start and end times for work as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Carry out the Shipping Clerk Lead responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies.Responsibilities include training new employees, assigning and directing work, appraising performance of employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, while at the same time making sound decisions.
  • Handle daily employee issues.
  • Reaching with hands/arms throughout shift.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers.
  • Ability to see, hear and talk.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in light to moderate noise levels; hearing protection may be required.
  • Walk up to 400 yards to work and break areas.
  • Communicate in English to give and acknowledge instructions/problems.
  • Physical and mental ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, employees, and supervisors.
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees and management.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Repetitive reaching overhead, under and across throughout shift.
  • Push/pull items up to 1000 lbs. with assistance.
  • Perform general housekeeping, including sweeping, mopping, etc.
  • May climb steps to and from work and break areas.
  • Good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity for repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment in close proximity to others.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Possess basic math skills for counting, adding, and subtracting.
  • Ability to work in variable temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Repetitive bending, stooping and twisting throughout shift.
  • Ability to work in wet, humid areas.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and apply basic concepts of algebra.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
  • Ability to work well with others in stressful situations and meet deadlines as necessary.
  • May work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles and vibration.
  • Basic to mid-level computer abilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks.
  • Keyboarding, recordkeeping and follow-up skills.
  • Receptive to new ideas, concepts and procedures.
  • Receptive and responsive to constructive criticism.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Maintain harmonious working relations with employees from all departments.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • Basic to mid-level math and reading skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong self confidence and leadership skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge; Prior AS400 experience helpful.
  • Data entry skills.
  • Understands basic concept of First In/First Out (FIFO) product rotation.
  • Must be accurate and detail-oriented.
