Summary


The function of this position is to provide nursing services to Adult Day Service participants and act as a resource to caregivers, participants, and staff in meeting participants’ health care needs. Assess participants on admission with respect to health care and dietary needs, and on a continuing basis, review, update, and execute that assessment. Establish and review health and nutrition goals for each participant. Act as a liaison to the medical community and funding sources for Goodwill Easter Seals Adult Day Services as a whole. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor the health and welfare of participants while in the program.
  • Communicate health changes/participant health status to families/caregivers.
  • Serve as a liaison for participants, caregivers, staff and medical rehab professionals around medical issues.
  • Provide first aid treatment.  If further treatment is necessary, the nurse refers the case to the family physician as indicated.
  • Insure medications are stored per standard medical practices and regulations.
  • Perform treatments and administer medications upon receiving written order from physician.
  • Assist in operational troubleshooting. 
  • Assume the lead in handling medical emergencies and determine the need for outside emergency intervention, i.e., referral for 911 services when needed.
  • Facilitate and advise participants regarding dietary compliance.
  • Monitor participants’ vital signs at least monthly and as appropriate for health monitoring and maintenance.
  • Maintain clinical notes and accident and illness logs as appropriate for program participants and employees; follow up as appropriate
  • Conduct in-service training for staff, i.e., first aid, CPR, etc., as directed or required.
  • Assist with the teaching of program participants in curriculum areas relating to health and well-being.
  • Work with the nursing team to assist in the development, planning, and implementation of protocols, policies, procedures, forms, and reporting of health- and wellness-related issues of adult day services.
  • Assist in monitoring, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining optimal enrollment and staff-participant ratio as required by funders.
  • Assist the program coordinator with the implementation and re-evaluation of policies/procedures and participant handbooks.
  • Assist in the investigation of accidents and assist the safety manager in completing required workers' compensation forms.
  • Participate in case conferences or individual consultations to apply medical knowledge and experience as it applies to rehabilitation planning at least every six months.
  • Complete Relias training upon hire, monthly, and annually.
  • Remain current on aging issues, including the senior, DD, and mental health populations.
  • Perform all Adult Day Care Food Program duties that are assigned and comply with all standards, including behavioral health, senior services, and developmental disabilities. 
  • Fill in for other nurses as needed.
  • Comply with all agency policies, procedures, and safety standards throughout work areas and maintain the same to meet CARF, Department of Labor, and other regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises all program participants and designated staff in situational assessments within the medical area, i.e., LPN, Activity & Personal Care Aide, nursing students, vocational trainees, etc.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work for healthcare staff; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining those staff; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

Education Requirements

Nurse RN, BSN preferred, licensed in the state of Ohio, and a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 

Experience Requirements

  • Two years’ experience as an RN in competitive employment.
  • Familiarity with workers' compensation laws.
  • Possess the ability to evaluate the health needs of program participants.

  • The employee must maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to Goodwill's liability insurance provider.   • Must be able to travel between all Adult Day Service sites.
  • Must maintain the ability to pass a criminal background check and random drug screens.
