Summary:  Under limited supervision and with significant independent judgment, reviews insurance applications to evaluate and classify each risk to determine acceptability, and monitors existing business in order to verify its continued acceptability by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Reviews and evaluates insurance applications, renewals and endorsements to, within defined authority, approve, modify or decline risks.

 

  1. Determines and authorizes reinsurance, if necessary.

 

  1. Communicates with agents and internal staff to collect necessary information to perform risk assessment.

 

  1. Builds and maintains positive working relationships with agents and internals staff; assists and responds to inquiries by telephone, correspondence, and agency visits.

 

  1. Maintains profitable business in territory through proper selection, pricing, and monitoring of business.

 

  1. May serve as a contributing member of project teams, or a leader of project teams, coordinating resources to ensure achievement of project activities.

 

  1. May provide leadership to junior staff by assigning tasks, training and providing guidance.  May provide input to management regarding junior staff performance.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

Level 6:   Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or six to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Certificates, Designations and Licenses:

Related functional training such as Certificate of General Insurance (INS), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or other insurance education certificates preferred.
