Summary:  Under general supervision and with independent judgment, supervises and coordinates the activities of the commercial lines field management and underwriting teams to facilitate the growth and profitability of commercial lines business in an assigned territory, by performing the following duties:

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Ensures the profitability and growth of commercial lines business in an assigned territory, including:
    1. Works with staff to build and maintain agency relationships
    2. Works with staff to attain profit, quality, growth, diversification, and other operational objectives
    3. Manages the quality review process to ensure service and quality standards are met on new business submissions, endorsements, and renewals
    4. Manages the underwriting and field manager function to ensure proper risk selection, pricing, and monitoring of new and renewal business
    5. Works with the CL Underwriting Support Team Leader, to set the direction for the underwriting support function
    6. Plans and organizes workload and territory assignments to achieve results
    7. Works collaboratively with Product Management and Corporate Underwriting to execute commercial lines best practices
    8. Works collaboratively with the field, desk underwriting and loss control functions on risk selection
    9. Works with the Quality Assurance teams to ensure underwriting quality, adherence to company filings and individual authorities, and following through on applicable corrective action needed
    10. Travels as needed within the territory to support new agency appointments and corrective actions, annual planning process, build and strengthen relationships, and support growth and profit goals
    11. Manages the independent agency plant, including agency appointments, opportunities for growth, areas needing corrective action, and terminations

 

  1. May serve as a contributing member or leader of project team(s), coordinating resources to ensure achievement of project goals

 

  1. Represents the company in a professional manner during agency travel along with regional and executive meetings.

 

  1. Functions as a Manager of a business unit, either directly or through subordinate leaders, including but not limited to:
    1. Recommends and communicates goals. Directs operations to ensure the achievement of required results
    2. Develops, recommends and implements operational plans and procedures
    3. Trains, coaches and leads staff
    4. Prepares and/or reviews performance appraisals. Conducts performance review meetings
    5. Recommends and/or implement employment actions, including employment/termination, corrective action, promotions/demotions, salary changes, etc.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned

 

Education/Experience: Level 5:   Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

CPCU, CIC Preferred

A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
