Quality Engineer
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Quality Engineer to join our dynamic operations team in Chadds Ford, PA. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that our custom-built domes and immersive display systems meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. As a key team member, you will lead quality inspections, drive root cause investigations, develop and implement process improvements, and collaborate across departments to enhance our Quality Management System. Responsibilities:
Quality Program Development & Execution
- Develop and implement a formal Quality Management System (QMS) from the ground up, designed specifically for custom fabrication.
- Establish comprehensive inspection procedures, including defined sampling plans, measurable tolerances, and pass/fail criteria for components and assemblies.
- Work closely with the Engineering department to integrate QC requirements into existing drawings, BOMs, and documentation without disrupting established workflows.
- Create SOPs, inspection protocols, and work instructions that elevate quality without adding unnecessary complexity or interfering with ongoing manufacturing.
- Perform inspections on incoming materials, in-process components, and final products to ensure adherence to specifications and visual/aesthetic standards.
- Ensure timely execution of detailed non-conformance reports and lead root cause investigations using 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and Corrective Action Reports (CARs).
- Manage and maintain the RMA and MRB processes, ensuring issues are tracked, resolved, and used as learning tools.
- Support validation testing and final quality checks in collaboration with Project Management and Engineering teams.
Audits, Compliance & Documentation Control
- Plan and conduct internal audits, identifying gaps and driving continuous improvement actions.
- Coordinate supplier audits and material inspections alongside the Supply Chain team, documenting findings and follow-ups.
- Aid supplier chain in Supplier Quality Management.
- Maintain strong document control procedures to ensure version accuracy, traceability, and system-wide compliance.
Continuous Improvement & Culture Building
- Lead and coordinate continuous improvement activities such as: 5S events, Kaizen events, weekly CIP meetings, problem solving, improvement projects, etc.
- Identify and recommend practical process improvements that enhance quality outcomes without adding unnecessary complexity for operational teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to foster a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Assist in the development and rollout of training for new quality and safety systems to support successful adoption across departments.
Professional Writing & Reporting
- Develop and improve documentation by working cross-functionally with the team including policies, SOPs, inspection reports, training materials, and corrective actions with clarity, professionalism, and consistency.
- Produce high-quality reports and dashboards that support decision making and highlight trends in quality performance.
- Ensure all written content is audit ready and communicates expectations clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field) required.
- 5 to 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a strong focus on quality engineering and process improvement.
- Demonstrated experience developing quality systems, including authoring formal policies and procedures.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with ERP and document control systems strongly preferred.
- Exceptional written communication skills, with an ability to produce clear, professional, and audit-ready documentation.
- Strong understanding of quality tools and lean methodologies including 5S, 5 Whys, root cause analysis, and Corrective Action Reports (CARs).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with inspection tools, mechanical tolerances, and dimensional verification methods.
- Proven ability to collaborate across departments and lead quality-related initiatives without disrupting core workflows.
- Comfortable working on the shop floor and engaging directly with fabrication, assembly, and operations teams.
- Experience in custom or project-based manufacturing environments is a plus.
- Willingness to travel routinely to regional manufacturing partners (primarily within a 3-hour radius of Chadds Ford) for inspections, audits, and quality support.
