CCBHC - Family Peers - Peer & Family Caregiver
Summary
Family Peer Advocates assist families to set priorities and goals, provide information, and help families navigate multiple complex service systems. Family Peer Advocates support families to strengthen their connections to community resources and connect with natural supports.
Essential Functions:
Provide Peer Support:
Offer emotional and practical support to families, sharing personal experiences and insights gained from navigating similar situations.
Advocate for Families:
Represent the needs and rights of families within service systems, advocating for access to resources and appropriate services.
Facilitate Information and Education:
Help families understand their rights, access available resources, and navigate complex systems.
Promote Empowerment:
Support families in setting goals, building strengths, and achieving their desired outcomes.
Connect Families to Resources:
Link families with relevant community resources, support groups, and other services.
Participate in System Improvement:
Contribute to the development and improvement of services for families, based on their lived experiences.
Collaborate with Professionals:
Work effectively with other professionals, such as social workers, therapists, and case managers, to ensure comprehensive support for families.
Maintain Confidentiality:
Adhere to strict confidentiality standards when working with families.
Complete Training and Certification:
Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Minimum Qualifications:
Credentialed Family Peer Advocate (FPA-C).
Lived Experience: Personal experience as a parent or caregiver of a child with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges, or as someone who has navigated child-serving systems.
Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with families and other professionals.
Empathy and Compassion: Genuine care and concern for the well-being of families.
Advocacy Skills: Ability to effectively advocate for families and their needs.
Organizational Skills: Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Cultural Competency: Understanding and respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in using computers and relevant software.
Reliable Transportation: Ability to travel to different locations to meet with families.
High School Diploma or Equivalent: Required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual Skills (Preferred): Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish or other languages spoken in the community.
Experience working in a behavioral health or social services setting.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and person-centered recovery models
Job Behavioral Expectations:
Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health & safety procedures.
Safe and successful performance, including meeting productivity standards.
Maintain an understanding of the principles, methods and processes needed to perform the job. Attends staff meetings, seminars and in-service training as assigned.
Demonstrates the ability to complete work in an acceptable manner by the time and/or date established with accuracy and minimal errors.
