By joining our growing Construction Claim team as a Construction Defect Claims Specialist, you’ll ensure high-quality claim handling while making coverage determinations, investigating losses, conducting independent assessments of company exposure, and moving cases towards timely resolution. Because of your deep knowledge and liabiity claim expertise, you’ll be an effective source for help and support. 
 
How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle assigned construction-related loss claims with a primary focus on construction defect claims across multiple jurisdictions
  • Develop and maintain excellent rapport with our agency force, insureds, claimants, experts, attorneys, and internal customers
  • Serve as a construction subject matter expert internally and externally with insured and agents 
    • Build on construction expertise through attendance at webinars, seminars, and other industry events
    • Bring back knowledge gained externally to internal business partners through emails, training, and/or a newsletter 
  • Provide feedback and information to Underwriting and assist them with their business and marketing initiatives
  • Provide proactive customer service throughout the life of the file by appropriately setting expectations, building rapport, and responding to requests timely
  • Contributes to team NPS results
  • Pursue risk transfer opportunities, engage co-carriers, and pursue proper/favorable cost splits
  • Set accurate reserves and continually review reserve accuracy
  • Comply with Best Practice Playbook
  • Manage paid losses appropriately, pay what is fair and owed, and settle claims at the optimal time in the life of the claim file
  • Manage files through swift resolution of files that warrant settlement
  • Monitor and collaborate with defense counsel on litigation strategy and development through the litigation process;  thoroughly review defense costs to control defense costs
  • Attend mediations and trials with overnight travel as needed
  • Retain approved or preferred suppliers whenever possible and manage non-legal expenses
  • Participate in company-wide large loss roundtables and provide technical regional guidance to CORE associates 

What You’ll Bring

  • Must possess or secure and maintain appropriate state adjuster licenses and continuing education credits
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, risk management, or related field and six years of insurance experience, including handling high complexity, high severity claims
  • Or eight years of insurance experience, including handling high complexity, high severity claims
  • Adjudicate high authority complex claims at the highest authority limits on assignments reflecting the highest degree of technical complexity in liability and litigated claims potentially having a major impact on departmental results
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 20% of the time 

Preferred

  • Construction defect litigation
  • Construction defect experience
  • Litigation and mediation management experience
  • Experience in insurance claims with five years in commercial claims
  • Strong CGL coverage experience, including analyzing coverage for construction-related losses and drafting applicable letters and responses
  • Adjudicate high authority complex claims at the highest authority limits on assignments reflecting the highest degree of technical complexity in liability and litigated claims potentially having a major impact on departmental results
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to investigate and evaluate complex liability claims
  • Ability to analyze available information and make effective decisions
  • Ability to evaluate damages and negotiate fair settlements
  • Verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills
  • Multi-tasking and prioritization skills
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent file management/organization
  • Creative and effective problem solver
  • Ability to understand Central Insurance’s policies and processes
