We are currently looking for a Mechanical Specialist/ Sr. Mechanical Specialist for our Petal, MS office.

 

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be the day-to-day operation and maintenance of various natural gas compressor station facilities for Boardwalk’s Petal Gas Storage facilities, located near Petal, Mississippi.

This individual will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, including environmental, health, and safety standards, as well as the operation, maintenance, and repair of station equipment. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, reciprocating, turbine, and electric natural gas compressors, TEG dehydrators, fluid separation equipment, leach plant equipment, valves, and related components.

The candidate will be expected to follow procedures aligned with DOT regulations, industry standards, manufacturer recommendations, and BWP guidelines regarding the operation and maintenance of equipment and associated systems. This includes, but is not limited to, operating equipment and taking a lead role in the repair and maintenance of reciprocating natural gas-fired engines, such as Waukesha and Caterpillar unit, as well as Toshiba and GE electric motors and associated compressor units. Responsibilities will also include overhauls and mechanical repairs of all reciprocating natural gas engines and compressors.

Additional duties include completing compliance and maintenance inspections in the OMS database, performing routine maintenance tasks such as filter changes, cleaning and inspecting coolers, and conducting periodic checks on various system components (e.g., valves, shut-down devices, rod/bearing clearances, packing, piston clearances, lube oil sampling, web deflections, cooling fan inspections, emergency shut-down systems, fire/gas detection systems, etc.). The candidate will assist with the calibration of temperature and pressure transmitters and other electrical maintenance tasks and will monitor flows and operating conditions for all units at the Petal Gas Storage facilities.

The successful candidate must adhere to all BWP safety protocols and comply with environmental and OSHA regulations, while accurately documenting maintenance activities and operational data.

Additionally, this individual will provide support at the Black Creek, Forrest, and Destin Compressor Stations near Petal, MS, and at the Vossburg, MS facility, as needed for mechanical repairs and facility operations.

Qualified candidates must be available for emergency response and must reside within 30 miles of the Petal Gas Storage facilities to respond promptly to call-outs.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • One or more years' experience  in  operation  and maintenance of Waukesha  and Caterpillar natural  gas fired  engines.
  • Work  experience  in  the natural  gas industry  or equivalent petrochemical/oil  industry.
  • Must be self-motivated  and  have a strong commitment to personal  and team  safety
  • Excellent  verbal  and written  communication skills.
  • Excellent  troubleshooting  and  problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work  in  extreme  weather conditions including  hot,  cold,  muddy,  rocky and wet environments  and ability to stand  for long periods  of lime,  and climb  stairs and ladders, etc.
  • Ability to utilize a PC and manage a filing system.
  • Ability to work independently with  minimal supervision  and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for a minimum  of
  • 50 feet.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record with  no restrictions.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Three or more years of mechanical repair experience with gas compressors, including Waukesha engines/Dresser-Rand compressors and Caterpillar engine/Arial compressor units.
  • Three or more years of Electrical  and Instrumentation experience
  • Experience with  Electric Compression  (5,000  HP motors).

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

 

  • High School Diploma

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

 

  • Associate Degree in related field
