Position Summary:
The New Orleans Saints and Pelicans are seeking a Director of Content that will spearhead the digital content strategy and execution for the Saints and Pelicans, encompassing articles, podcasts, photo storytelling, video features and more. The person will lead a team of writers, podcasters and program hosts devoted to creating the most compelling content possible about our teams, players, fans and community. This role will work closely with creative teams across the organization to develop the best content for our websites, apps, social media platforms, podcast platforms, direct-to-consumer products and television partners.
What you will be doing:
- Manage the Pelicans’ and Saints’ digital strategy, planning, execution, budget, and reporting. Educating where, when, why and what content is placed across all platforms (social, web, app, and direct-to-consumer)
- Lead our team of content creators to develop the best strategy for our written, audio, photo and video storytelling
- Ensure all content delivers for our business objectives
- Help us inform and grow our fan bases while deepening their avidity
- Work with our talented social and product teams to make sure all content is displayed and promoted in the most impactful way
- Create content video concepts in accordance with our key tentpole moments, brand campaigns, in-game experiences, and partnership obligations
- Work with our radio broadcast team to create the most compelling audio content in professional sports
- Work with our partnership team to create sellable assets across all our content verticals
- Keep tabs on the latest media approaches and best practices to storytelling
- Develop a deep understanding for the business of sports and the behaviors of sports fans
What you’ll bring:
- 7+ years of professional experience in media; ideally with a professional or college sports team, newspaper, TV station, radio station, digital agency or a large media company
- Deep understanding of the NBA, NFL with a strong focus on the Pelicans and Saints
- Deep understanding of New Orleans and its culture
- Strong editing and story-development skills
- Highly adaptable, with the skills, demeanor and confidence to thrive in a (very) fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
- Desire to work long hours including nights, weekends and holidays
- Experience managing an agency relationship a plus
- Strong writing skills, both for communication to avid fans and colleagues
- Strong presentation skills
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a relating field
- Ability to work unusual hours - nights, weekends, and holidays - as needed based on the NFL and NBA schedules
