HUD-CERTIFIED HOUSING COUNSELOR
CHAI (Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc.) is a nonprofit housing and community development organization. For 40 years, we have been strengthening neighborhoods in northwest Baltimore, making them better places to live, learn, and grow older.
CHAI has an immediate opening for a full-time HUD-Certified Housing Counselor who will be part of the housing counseling team that provides homebuyer education workshops and pre-purchase, rental, and foreclosure prevention counseling. CHAI is a HUD-approved Local Housing Counseling Agency. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned HUD-certified housing counselor with proven management experience and NCHEC certifications in foreclosure prevention, homeownership counseling, homebuyer education and rental housing counseling.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with reports for government grants
- Maintain client and workshop files, both paper and in CHAI’s Client Management System in compliance with HUD guidelines
- Implement HUD Quality Control Plan, conducting regular client file reviews
- Conduct at least ten 6-hour Homebuyer Education Workshops per year in collaboration with Housing Counseling Team Lead, as well as Rental and Post-Purchase workshops
- Provide pre-purchase, post-purchase, foreclosure prevention, and rental housing counseling
- Develop action plans to assist clients with meeting their goals
- Manage a caseload of active housing counseling clients in accordance with funding commitments
- Conduct follow-up with clients and close out files, as necessary
- Understand and promote CHAI’s proprietary loan programs, as well as other public and private incentive programs for first-time homebuyers
- Maintain required certifications in pre-purchase, foreclosure prevention, and rental counseling
- Assist with all department events, including Homebuyer Expo, Open House Tour, and Lender-Realtor Brunch
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a housing counselor
- HUD Housing Counselor Certification
- NCHEC Certification in Pre-Purchase Counseling and Foreclosure Intervention and Default Counseling (or obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and common CMS platforms
- Commitment to strengthening diversity, racial equity, and inclusion in communities
- Ability to maintain confidentially and safeguard client privacy
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to deal with difficult people and problems
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred but not required
Compensation & Benefits
$55,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience
