SUMMARY:
Our head of athletics will have the exciting role of teaching sports to our J Day Campers and leading a team of three people. They will create an 8-week athletics curriculum that will teach the campers about teamwork, sportsmanship, and basic hand eye coordination. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching or coaching a sport and leading a small team.
Length of Position:
- June 23rd, 2025 - August 15th, 2025- approx. hours 8:15-4:45pm
Pre-Camp Duties
- June 12th-5:30 PM- 8:30 PM NEW STAFF ONLY
- June 16th-5:00 PM- 8:30 PM
- June 17th- 11 AM- 6:00 PM
- June 18th- 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM Back to Camp Night
- June 20th -8:15am to 4:45pm
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Develop an eight-week cooking curriculum that focuses on different sports and skills each week
- Lessons must be age appropriate.
- Work with the head of sports camp to take inventory of supplies and line the fields.
- Be knowledgeable of the rules of sports and how to teach children
- Supervise, participate, and administer athletic activities for children ages 4 to 14
- Plan activities and events that are exciting, challenging and value.
- Work cooperatively with camp leadership, counselors, and other departments.
- Supervise a team of three people
- Perform specific scheduled assignments, including but not limited to carpool.
- Check in with supervisor daily to discuss any concerns or problems concerning campers and facilities.
- Be a consistent role model for campers.
- Create a weekly staffing schedule of all athletic periods
- Ensure that the facility (fields and gyms) is kept clean and safe, so that children are in a safe and comfortable environment.
- Ensure that campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs.
- Attend pre-camp staff training.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:
- Experience at summer camp or similar environment preferred.
- High School diploma or equivalent required; college credits and formal experience in cooking preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with youth (4 to 15), specifically around athletics.
- An understanding of sports and teamwork.
- Willingness to follow / give directions and work as a team member.
- Strong leadership and organization skills.
- Willingness to ask for assistance when needed or desired.
WHO YOU ARE:
- High School diploma or equivalent required; college credits and formal experience in teaching athletics preferred.
- Additional training and certifications in physical education or a related field is preferred
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to spend time sitting and using a computer, laptop or phone. The employee may also be required to frequently be on their feet for long periods of time. The employee will be required to be outside for extended periods of time and must be able to sustain time walking in hot temperatures.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The work environment may be fast paced and requires high energy and interaction with others. The workspace may be noisy, at times.
