Student Government Coordinator
Associated Students Inc., CSUF provides student development opportunities through leadership, volunteer, and employment experiences. In addition, the Associated Students provides campus community members with important social, cultural, and recreational opportunities, as well as, a wide range of programs and services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Government, the coordinator works in the areas of leadership advising, program administration, assessment, leadership and career training, development, education, budget and
financial management, and personnel. Primarily, the coordinator will serve as an advisor to elected and/or appointed student leaders and program groups within ASI. The coordinator will also provide ASI policy/procedure advising to
funded/funding student organizations and may supervise graduate and/or student assistants, who provide additional support to student activities/programs. They oversee and advise student leaders in student government, boards,
committees, elections, ambassadors, commissions, and more in the areas of policy adherence, interpersonal communication, program assessment, public speaking, and post-graduation readiness.
Leadership Advising, Program Administration, Assessment
- Coaches and advises student leaders through regular weekly meetings and frequent communication, and interactions
- Attends staff, committee/commission, executive board, program, and/or other related meetings
- Works with student leaders to ensure continuity of programming, funding, and advocacy efforts; provides training and development for such efforts
- Provides support to student leaders and the department in planning and executing events/activities
- Attends and monitors ASI-sponsored events/activities, as needed or directed
- Develops and implements analysis methods to support programmatic assessment needs of the department
Leadership and Career Training, Development, Education
- Coaches and advises student leaders individually on career and life skill development
- Takes part in researching, developing, and implementing effective leadership training and career development education programs for student leaders on an ongoing basis
- Liaise with cross-departmental and campus partnerships to support referral systems for student leaders' individual needs, including academic support referrals, and curating training offerings for student leader groups
Budget and Financial Management
- Monitors and supports the processing of expenditures for various departmental programs to ensure compliance with established organizational, fiscal, and risk management policies and procedures
- Provide financial advising and training on ASI policy/procedure(s) to funded/funding student organizations
Personnel
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates graduate and/or student assistant staff
Other
- Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Serves as a generalist advisor to all ASI student leaders
- Other duties as assigned
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in higher education, student development, business or public administration, or related field required, Master’s Degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a student services program area, or in a related field required. Demonstrated experience in leadership training required; additional experience in counseling and/or crisis management is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service

Typical Working Conditions:
Student Government Coordinator generally works in a temperature-controlled office environment and may occasionally be required to work at events outdoors.
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting and standing for extended periods: The role involves computer work and meetings, requiring sustained sitting or standing.
- Walking and climbing stairs: Moving around the campus, attending events, and potentially using stairs regularly.
- Lifting and carrying moderate weight: This could include lifting and carrying materials for presentations, events, or production activities, no more than 30 lbs.
- Dexterity and fine motor skills: Operating computer equipment, handling small objects, and performing tasks requiring hand-eye coordination.
- Visual and auditory acuity: Effective communication and interaction in various settings require good vision and hearing.
