SUMMARY
An Amphenol Industrial Operations AIO Design Engineer will work with the Design Engineering team on new and existing business spanning many markets and business opportunities. They will be responsible for sustaining legacy products of the company, performing research and creating new product designs The position reports to the Engineering Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage technical aspects of Product Design projects from ideation/concept to launch working closing with the cross-functional team utilizing lean product development techniques
- Effectively works independently or with others
- Design expertise with plastics (injection molding), and metals (stamping and machining)
- Familiar with connector manufacturing processes including progressive die stamping, injection molding, crimping, ultrasonic welding, assembly, etc.
- Create all engineering documents utilizing SolidWorks or CREO and ePDM including BOMs, ECN, Drawings, etc.
- Develop test plan to meet all product requirements
- Work with test lab and/or performs tests to gain knowledge or qualify designs.
- Responsible for development and accuracy of work performed
- May work with outside Engineering Services or suppliers with their daily work or to support other departments
- Utilize creativity to develop product concepts and determine most effective way to gain knowledge required to develop product efficiently
- Continuing education and training encouraged

- Communicate with customers regarding their documents
- Utilize continuous improvement mindset when approaching work
- Follow all safety policies and procedures and practices minimizing risk and striving for “Zero” incidents
- Follow all company policies and procedures
- Adhere to methods, policies and processes set forth by the engineering management team
- 5S/Housekeeping
- Other duties as assigned by management
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Mechanical Engineering preferred
- Minimum of 5 Years experience in Connector Product Design Required
- Possess desire and ability to work cross functionally to develop and launch new innovative designs
- Knowledge of and Experience with standards such as MIL-DTL-5015, MIL-DTL-38999, MIL-DTL-28482 , UL, IEC, etc
- Excellent Creo and Solidworks skills with commitment to best modeling practices
- Connector testing experience required; including but not limited to tensile testing, cross-sections, temperature rise, and Mil spec testing.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
- Ability to effectively use engineering analysis tools including finite element analysis, mold flow simulation, heat transfer and electrical simulation desired
- Strong Decision-making ability with the capability to explain reasoning for said decisions
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills required, including modern communication and office software
- Proficiency working with project management platform and ERP systems
- Expertise in creating drawings, tolerance analysis and GD&T
- Possess ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks within a fast-paced environment
- Must have computer proficiency MS Office Suite with an intermediate skill level in Excel
- Working knowledge of Lean tool including but not limited to: Root Cause Analysis, A3s, Knowledge Reports
- Prototyping experience required including 3D printing, contact and connector prototyping
- Demonstrated fluency in technical concepts
- Must be able to show eligibility to legally work in the United States of America; Sponsorship not available for this position
- Must be fluent in English
