What Happens in Processing Anyway?

  • Sort donated items and identify great finds
  • Help identify recyclable items. Even if we can't sell it, we can keep it out of the landfill!
  • Get those great finds sales floor ready
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Load and unload carts to get merchandise out safely and efficiently
  • Clean up and reset the processing area at the end of each day

Position Title: Processing Team Member (Baler)

Reports To: Processing Supervisor

Department: Processing

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

 

Position Purpose and Objectives 

Are you ready to contribute to a mission-driven organization? We are seeking team members who will play a vital role in maintaining the quality and efficiency of our operations. We are seeking dedicated and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as Balers. In this role, you will help uphold our quality standards by adhering to safety procedures and preparing materials for shipment through efficient collection, baling, and tracking processes.

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Monitor, empty, and rotate carts at the sorting table promptly to maintain seamless workflow within the processing area.
  • Operate machinery to produce various types of bales, including clothing, domestic goods, and cardboard, ensuring proper techniques and safety protocols are followed.
  • Accurately bale items within established timeframes, adhering to quality and condition standards set by the company.
  • Conduct quality checks during the baling process to identify and return sellable items to the sorting table for further processing.
  • Be adaptable to assist with other tasks or workstations as needed to support team success.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay informed about quality standards, seasonal requirements, and procedural updates.
  • Collaborate with other team members to maintain smooth transitions between workstations.
  • Participate in team training to stay updated on quality standards and seasonal guidelines.
  • Be flexible to assist with other tasks or workstations as needed.
  • Forklift certification must be obtained to safely operate equipment and support warehouse and backroom operations.
  • Strictly follow all safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), while operating the baling machine.
  • Uphold the organization’s commitment to safety and quality in all tasks.

 

Skills and Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Consistent and Reliable
  • Strong attention to detail to identify quality issues quickly.
  • The ability to work efficiently to meet production targets.
  • Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the handling and categorization of a variety of items, including clothing, toys, and household items.
  • Operate in a fast-paced environment that requires standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
  • Handle merchandise bags weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Background, MVR, and Drug Screen required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and meet other job-related demands for extended periods.
  • Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided.

Physical Demands: 

  • Frequently - Carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 14-foot height, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, handling and smelling. 
  • Frequently - Walking on tile/concrete, bending, feeling, and reaching waist/overhead level. 
  • Continuously - Standing on tile/concrete, talking, seeing, and hearing. 

 

Other: 

  • Mostly regular and weekend hours, occasionally working evenings and holiday hours as needed. 
  • Working environment includes inside of building withsemi- controlled temperatures and outside conditions with varying weather and temperatures.
