Associate Vice President of Campus Life
The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Campus Life is a key senior leader at Albright College, responsible for providing strategic leadership, direction, and oversight of Residential Life and Student Engagement. Reporting to the Vice President for Student and Campus Life, the AVP plays a critical role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive campus environment that promotes academic success, personal development, and community connection.
This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced and passionate student affairs professional to bring visionary leadership to both residential life and co-curricular programming within a small, private liberal arts setting.
Responsibilities
Residential Life Leadership
- Oversee the management of all residence halls, ensuring safe, well-maintained, and inclusive living environments.
- Provide vision for residential life programs that support student engagement, belonging, and academic success.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of residential life staff, including professional and student staff (e.g., Resident Advisors).
- Manage housing assignments, conflict resolution, and residence hall operations in collaboration with campus partners.
- Lead crisis response efforts and support students facing personal or residential challenges.
- Foster community building within residential spaces and collaborate with departments to support holistic student needs.
Student Engagement and Activities
- Lead campus-wide student activities that promote community, leadership, and personal growth.
- Guide the development of workshops, programs, and events that align with institutional values and foster active student involvement.
- Cultivate student leadership by providing training, mentorship, and development opportunities.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate co-curricular learning into the academic experience.
- Oversee planning and execution of major events such as Welcome Weekend, Pre-Orientation, and other large-scale programs.
Strategic and Administrative Responsibilities
- Serve as a student advocate, responding to individual concerns and working to enhance the overall student experience.
- Assess the effectiveness of residential life and student engagement programs through data collection, analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Develop and enforce policies that support student safety, well-being, and success.
- Ensure compliance with college policies, legal requirements, and professional standards.
- Prepare reports and briefings for senior leadership on strategic priorities and program outcomes.
- Collaborate across departments to align residential and co-curricular efforts with institutional goals.
- Support residential student conduct processes and coordinate with Campus Safety and other offices on matters of student accountability and well-being.
- Serve as a member of the College’s emergency response team, providing leadership during student-related crises.
Compliance and Title IX Responsibilities
- Serve as a key partner in supporting the College’s Title IX compliance efforts, working closely with the Title IX Coordinator.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and communication of policies, procedures, and education initiatives related to Title IX, sexual misconduct, and gender-based discrimination.
- Ensure that residential life and student engagement staff are trained and equipped to respond appropriately to Title IX concerns.
- Support the College’s efforts to provide prompt, fair, and impartial resolution of Title IX complaints, including coordinating supportive measures for impacted students.
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus climate in alignment with Title IX expectations.
- Participate in ongoing professional development related to Title IX and relevant compliance regulations.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, including residential life and student activities.
- At least 3–5 years in a senior leadership or managerial role in a higher education setting.
Skills and Competencies
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building abilities with experience mentoring professional staff.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Deep knowledge of student development theory and best practices in student affairs.
- Strong budget management, strategic planning, and program assessment capabilities.
- Proven crisis management, conflict resolution, and student support skills.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and fostering a campus climate of belonging.
- Understanding of Title IX regulations and experience supporting Title IX-related work in a higher education environment.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
- Familiarity with residential and student engagement software systems.
- Experience leading or overseeing large-scale programs or campus-wide initiatives.
