Summary/Purpose
|
Responsible for the development and optimization of material and information flow systems throughout the Piedmont, SC operations site. The Industrial Engineer will also have exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and management skills, demonstrating the ability to be an innovator and change agent. The ideal candidate is familiar with Lean and TPS methodologies such as waste reduction and JIT, with a successful record of accomplishment in containerization and Kanban implementation.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
|
- Assist with implementation of standardized TPS/Lean toolbox, including core tools of 5S, Material Replenishment & Flow, A3 Thinking, Standardized Work, VSM, Visual Management
- Design and implementation of standardized materials storage, containerization, and material handling equipment in a manufacturing environment
- Plan for Every Part (PFEP) development
- Fork truck and material handling equipment utilization, optimization and standardization
- WIP analysis and Reduction
- Design, implementation, calculation, and maintenance of material pull systems (Kanban)
- Determine appropriate min/max levels
- Line stocking requirements and material presentation in assembly cells
- Kitting and Supermarket strategies to support production
- Containerization specifications and recommendations
- Provide cost estimates for material racks and conveyance.
- Logistics planning

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
|
- Must be capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams and department leaders to address concerns and issues that affect lead-time, material flow, production efficiency, continuous improvement, etc.
- Knowledge of methods, quality control, standards, estimating, product and process rationalization, focused factories, time standards and work sampling.
- Skills in cost analysis and project management, SPC, data gathering and problem solving.
- Ability to multi-task on decision making and work duties.
- Accuracy in collecting and analyzing data for evidence to use in decision making process. Experience with work combination tables and development of Tugger routes is a plus.
- Excellent mathematical skills (including but not limited to decimals, metric measurements, algebra, etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and personal interaction skills.
- High level of attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent computer skills in a variety of computer software.
- Professionalism and composure while focusing on completion of necessary tasks.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience:
|
- B.S. in Industrial Engineering with minimum 1 -2 years’ experience of practical application in manufacturing or High School Diploma/GED with 5 – 7 years’ experience applying lean manufacturing and industrial engineering concepts in a high-volume manufacturing setting.

- Work shift as assigned and overtime is required, as needed.
- Will be required to do the following throughout the shift: standing, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching above and below shoulders, moving left to right repetitively, grasping, and fine finger dexterity.
- May be required to lift during shift up to 40 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required with this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- The performance of this position requires exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as steel-toed shoes, safety glasses with side shields.
- Forklift, walkee stacker, and or scissor lift experience preferred.
