TITLE: Senior Quality Engineer
Duties: Responsible to lead cross-functional teams in 8D or other problem-solving methodology to effectively resolve customer and internal quality complaints and concerns. Provide timely investigation, response and follow up to product quality issues, manufacturing concerns/complaints or requests related to product information, and incoming inspection for outsourced components. Support and coach other team members on disciplined root cause analysis and assist in corrective action plans with internal and external customers. Publish/Review Quality Alerts for customer, internal and supplier issues. Assist with keeping the product hold area current, providing data analysis, root cause problem solving for corrective & preventative action, as well as timely/accurate reporting to plant leadership. Ensure Corrective Actions for supplier, Internal and customer concerns are effective, documented, implemented and closed in a timely manner. Validate effective implementation. Prepare PPAP, preproduction and prototype submissions and maintain documentation in an organized manner. Review and disposition supplier PPAPs. Participate in APQP, Quality Gates and support new product launch activities. Develop Control plans and inspection/ evaluation techniques to prevent Quality issues and maintain the quality level to meet customer requirements. Develop, monitor, and update Statistical Process Control data collection systems and analyze SPC trends to ensure first time product quality. Understand SPC and teach Quality Technicians, Inspectors, and Operations personnel how to interpret and react to trends in data. Champion scrap reduction plans and improve First Time Quality (FTQ) in the plant. Develop and implement methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and devises methods to assess cost and responsibility as well as lead or facilitate scrap reduction activities. Assist in the preparation, continuous improvement, and annual reviews of PFMEA. Analyze data and provide solutions/recommendations for product and process improvements. Update and maintain Customer and corporate online systems to comply with requirements. Coordinate 3rd party material testing as required. Participate in quality training functions as required. Develop and maintain procedures and instructions to meet the IATF 16949:2016/ISO 9001:2015 standard along with the AIAG industry guidelines. Support Internal, External System Audits, conduct process, supplier, systems, and product audits to identify opportunities for improvement support with solutions to potential issues. Maintain Internal Auditor certification. Support gage design, capability studies, and the calibration system. Establishes, monitors, and maintains programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities. Compile and write training material and conduct training sessions on quality assurance concepts and quality control activities. Contribute to quality, health, safety, and environmental maintenance. Support other JTEKT facilities and travel as required. Support new program launch activities. Perform other duties as assigned. This position will require 20% domestic travel and 5% international travel.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or related occupation where required experience gained.
SPECIAL SKILLS: Also requires experience in the following:
• Five (5) years’ experience working in IATF 16949:2016/ISO 9001:2015 standards, including participation in external certification audits.
• Five (5) years’ experience leading cross-functional teams in development of AIAG industry tools including APQP, pFEMA, Control Plans, MSA, capability analysis, PPAP.
• Five (5) years’ experience leading cross-functional teams in root-cause corrective action tools such as 8D, 5Why, Fishbone.
• Five (5) years’ experience applying GD&T principles to production gauging or inspection techniques.
• Five (5) years’ experience with new item launch including manufacturing feasibility, process development and verification, gauge concept and material testing, MSA capability analysis.
• 6 Sigma Green Belt certification with three (3) years demonstrated application of competency.
• Five (5) years’ experience working with Tier-1 automotive OEM’s in a supplier quality capacity.
• Five (5) years’ experience with statistical analysis using Minitab software. Competency applying SPC concepts to high volume manufacturing processes.
• Two (2) years’ experience with IATF 16949 compliant internal or supplier quality audits and Layered Process Audits.
• Five (5) years’ experience developing and maintaining Quality Management System documentation including standard operating procedures and work instructions using English as a primary language.
