Job Summary

 

Manages the activities of a significant Operations function by providing direction and guidance to area supervision. Accountable to deliver expected facility and corporate operational results.

 

Essential Job Functions *

 

  • Productivity and Results
    • Provides direction and management to area managers and supervisors to accomplish operating results.
    • Delivers expected results for entire function in relation to customer service and operational standards within budgetary constraints.
    • Works effectively across functional line to achieve results while representing the interests of the function.
    • Reports all daily and monthly key indicator results to VP of Operations.
    • Works closely with customer service to ensure the common objectives relating to customer service are achieved.
    • Communicates regularly with staff to provide information, answer questions, and address issues.
  • Staffing Development
    • Trains and develops area managers and supervisors to accomplish operating results.
    • Promotes and inspires teamwork throughout the function, including across various shifts, to maintain a highly engaged work force.
    • Develops and ensures implementation of optimal staffing plans.
    • Maintains sound employee relations by developing and maintaining a strong and cohesive management/supervisory team that works professionally with employees within the facility.
  • Operational Support and Control
    • Works with facility manager and support teams to effectively maintain equipment in optimal working order.
    • Evaluates and recommends capital equipment and other significant enhancements to systems, processes, policies, and procedures to improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and customer service levels. Provides support for Lean initiatives.
    • Develops Preliminary annual budgets.
    • Ensures facility performance objectives are met or exceeded relating to productivity, quality, inventory management and customer service.
  • Safety
    • Incorporates safety into all activities within the work function and ensures consistent enforcement of all safety standards and policies.
    • Works with safety and facility management team to develop and deliver function specific training and ensure all employees are appropriately trained.
    • Takes proactive measures to identify and minimize risks.

Education & Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • Five years related experience in a high volume automated multi-shift distribution center. Experience in a facility that uses conveyers, RF scanning, and pick-to-ship container methods preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of inventory control and traffic management.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Windows. Able to learn and use in-house software applications.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • In depth knowledge of complex automated distribution.
  • Proven ability to manage change.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work Environment

Packaging - Material Handler: Self-paced, 8 hr shifts. May be exposed to fumes, loud noises, and extreme temperatures infrequently. Functional near, far and peripheral vision and functional hearing required.

Physical Demands

Material Handler: Medium - Heavy, lifting up to 70 lbs.
